In fact, it solves common issues linked to GM’s Active Fuel Management (AFM) or Displacement on Demand (DoD) systems.

WHAT IS AFM/DoD — AND WHY REMOVE IT?

To explain further, GM created the AFM/DoD system to save fuel. It shuts off half the cylinders when you don’t need full power. For instance, your V8 or V6 can run as a 4-cylinder during highway cruising. Then, when you press the gas, all cylinders reactivate.

At first glance, this idea sounds great. However, many GM owners run into real problems. The special lifters that open and close the valves often fail. Once they do, repairs can become costly. Besides, engines with AFM can lose power and feel rough.

That’s why an AFM/DoD Delete makes sense. If your lifters are still healthy, we can tune the ECU to turn the system off. On the other hand, if lifters have already failed, all AFM parts — like the camshaft and lifters — must be replaced with standard parts. After that, we tune the ECU so it runs properly. Without this tuning, the ECU keeps searching for missing AFM parts, which triggers warning lights and drivability issues. By doing it right, we make sure those problems never happen.

However, MDS can lead to rough driving. Some drivers feel shuddering or slow response. Plus, many don’t like the sound or feel. Especially if you’re upgrading your camshaft or other parts, MDS can cause tuning headaches.

UNLOCKING DODGE ECMs FOR HP TUNERS

Next, let’s talk about newer Dodge ECMs. Unfortunately, these modules come locked from the factory. In order to tune them, you first need to unlock them. Usually, this means shipping your ECM to the U.S., paying a high price, and waiting weeks.
